FED:Retailers vouch for gift cards this Xmas

Consumers have wised up to the Boxing Day sales and are increasingly buying store vouchers
rather than gifts for presents at Christmas.

United Retail Federation national president SCOTT DRISCOLL says the stigma of a voucher
being an impersonal gift has passed.

Mr DRISCOLL says giving a gift voucher is like giving the gift of choice - and also
avoids the frustration of seeing a gift you purchased for someone heavily discounted on
Boxing Day.

The Australian National Retail Association says about one in every five consumers will
give a voucher to a relative or friend on Christmas Day.
